The establishment of an Urban Development directorate reflects the recognition of the importance of planned and sustainable urbanization. Its role and mandate include urban planning and design, infrastructure development, housing and slum upgrading, land use management, urban renewal and regeneration, economic development and investment promotion, traffic and transportation planning, environmental sustainability, and public participation.
