Governors meet the Senate Committees on Finance and Budgeting at Parliament buildings

To fast track completion of jointly-financed projects at the county level, the National Government should allocate money to counties and ring-fence the same as conditional grants, this was the proposal submitted by Governors meeting the Senate Committees on Finance and Budgeting at Parliament buildings this morning.

Discussing the implementation of the joint project on construction of county headquarters in five counties – Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Tana River, Isiolo and Lamu, the Governors, among them His Excellency Governor (Dr) Moses Kiarie Badilisha, decried the long delays that have occasioned this project noting that this would have been avoided had the national government delegated management and supervision of the construction to respective counties.

“We must equally look into the aspect of time and fluctuations in cost which have greatly affected the budgets for the projects.

There is also inflation, supervision and management of the projects and proposed alterations which have been difficult to implement. We therefore request the Senate to intervene and see how the intended benefits can be quickly realized,” Governor Badilisha noted during his presentation to the committee chaired by Senator Hon. Ali Roba.
