Through the Department of Education, Children, Gender Affairs, Culture and Social Services His Excellency Governor (Dr.) Moses N. Badilisha Kiarie has partnered with the Nanyuki-based Walkabout Foundation to issue wheel chairs to children and adults living with disability.
The devices have been made with local parts, vastly enhancing repairs at bicycle garages across Nyandarua.
According to the department’s head, Hon. John Muiru, the partnership demonstrates the Governor’s robust commitment to demystify diseases facing vulnerable segments of the County’s population.
He added that the number of People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) across the County may continue growing as a result of population increase, aging and medical advances that preserve and prolong life.
Nyandarua has over 16,000 PWDs, out of which an estimated 5,303 have physical disabilities.
Present was Walkabout Foundation lead Ms. Grace Njihia, nominated Member of the County Assembly Hon. Joyce Munyua, Assistant Director of Gender Affairs Ms. Immaculate Irungu and her counterpart responsible for Nyandarua’s Vocational Training Centers, Ms. Margaret Gatimu.
